A Family’s Story: Capturing Memories at Crystal Lake, Kinmount

I recently had the privilege of photographing a truly special family at Crystal Lake, Kinmount, in the heart of Kawartha Lakes. This session was not just about photos; it was about documenting a family’s love, their shared moments, and the beautiful memories they’re creating together.

The session was booked by the son as a heartfelt gift to his father and stepmother. His words really touched me when he expressed the importance of this moment, saying, “As we age, there will be fewer and fewer chances to do a family photo shoot to capture some new memories.” Their family had also recently grown, with his sister’s new partner and his son joining their circle. It was clear that this shoot wasn’t just about pictures; it was about celebrating family and the love that connects generations.

We chose to start the session in their home, a beautiful space that radiated warmth and togetherness. With the family gathered in the kitchen, I captured them making homemade pizzas, which felt like a perfect reflection of their dynamic – everyone pitching in, laughing, and sharing stories. The wood-burning oven added a rustic, cosy charm to the atmosphere, and the smell of pizza baking only added to the joy of the day.

From kneading dough to playfully tossing ingredients, each moment was filled with laughter. It felt like I was witnessing something beyond just a photo session – it was a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. Once the pizzas were made, the family didn’t stop there. They turned up the music and threw an impromptu dance party right there in the kitchen!

The shoot was less about posing and more about documenting the real, authentic moments of joy that this family shares. With Crystal Lake as the backdrop, we also stepped outside to take in the natural beauty surrounding their home. The serenity of the lake added to the peaceful yet joyous energy of the day.

These photos capture more than just smiles; they tell the story of love, family traditions, and the joy that comes with being surrounded by the people who matter most.

This family reminded me of the importance of making time for these moments, of laughing together, cooking together, and creating new memories – because they’re the moments that matter most.
